With all the extra richness that comes from a Bandol rosé, this is a full wine, rounded with a touch of caramel as well as generous berry fruits. The blend is 60% Mouvèdre, 25% Grenache, 10% Syrah and 5% Carignan. The acidity gives a lift to the concentration of the wine. It could age a few months, so drink from the end of 2015.

Located in the heart of the climatic basin of Bandol, this 32-acre vineyard is classified as part Bandol and part Cotes de Provence. The vineyard follows organic principles; soils are nourished with organic compost and worked without chemical products, so as to gain the best expression of the terroir.

The vineyard was taken over in 1994 by Luc Sorin, whom Robert Parker called one of the most exciting winegrowers the South of France has to offer. Sorin wines are found on the finest tables in the region, such as Louis XV in Monaco, le Cartlon in Cannes, and Chez Blanc in Vonnas.

Whether it’s playful and fun or savory and serious, most rosé today is not your grandmother’s White Zinfandel, though that category remains strong. Pink wine has recently become quite trendy, and this time around it’s commonly quite dry. Since the pigment in red wines comes from keeping fermenting juice in contact with the grape skins for an extended period, it follows that a pink wine can be made using just a brief period of skin contact—usually just a couple of days. The resulting color depends on grape variety and winemaking style, ranging from pale salmon to deep magenta.

Provence’s leader in concentrated and age-worthy red wines, Bandol is home to the dense, deep and earthy Mourvèdre grape. Like Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Bandol produces characterful reds that, while approachable in their youth, are typically designed for the cellar.

Given its coastal, Provencal situation, Bandol also naturally produces an assortment of charming, aromatic rosés made of Mourvèdre, Grenache and Cinsault.
