Plump aromas of violet, candied boysenberry, black cherry and pie crust make for a very inviting nose on this bottling. The palate is even more complex, showing lavender, rosemary blossoms, bay leaf and white pepper, set against a ripe black-currant backdrop.

Made from 100% Syrah aged 18 months in neutral oak, the 2017 Syrah Williamson-Doré Vineyard gives up a vivid purple/plum color as well as a juicy bouquet of plum and black cherry fruits, spiced meats, ground pepper, and violets. Incredibly floral (especially with time in the glass), this medium to full-bodied Syrah has ripe, sweet tannins, beautiful balance, and a great finish. It's a classic, cool-climate Syrah from California that will evolve nicely for a decade.

Scents of mulberry and five spice give an impression of mulled juice at first. The flavors seem muted, but still convey plummy intensity, the texture elegant, with a forest-floor feel to the tannins that calls for wild-mushroom pizza.

Marked by an unmistakable deep purple hue and savory aromatics, Syrah makes an intense, powerful and often age-worthy red. Native to the Northern Rhône, Syrah achieves its maximum potential in the steep village of Hermitage and plays an important component in the Red Rhône Blends of the south, adding color and structure to Grenache and Mourvèdre. Syrah is the most widely planted grape of Australia and is important in California and Washington. Sommelier Secret—Such a synergy these three create together, the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre trio often takes on the shorthand term, “GSM.”
Today it is an integral part of the greater Santa Barbara County wine region, but at one time the village, Los Olivos, was a stop on the Wells Fargo stagecoach line.
