Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

The 2013 Director's Cabernet Sauvignon delivers dark, rich nuances of black currants, cherries, cloves, and spicy oak. Luscious and textured on the palate, this wine has beautiful spice notes,a strong finish, and supple tannins. Pair it up with hearty dishes like beef tenderloin, turkey pot pie, or au gratin potatoes.

Blend: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot,1% Cabernet Franc, 1% Malbec

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Director’s Cut has a deep ruby color, sweet black and red currant fruit, spice, medium to full body, elegant roundness, and gracious texture and length. This delicious, fully drinkable Cabernet Sauvignon should get better over the next 3-4 years, and last 12-15.

Francis Ford Coppola Winery Winery Video

Francis Ford Coppola Winery, re-opened in July 2010, is the latest venture from Francis Ford Coppola, whose passion for wine, food and adventure is nowhere more evident than in this new production – a winery resort located in the heart of Alexander Valley, California. Among the many attractions at the property, Francis Ford Coppola Winery features a wine tasting bar, two restaurants, swimming pools, a movie gallery, a performing arts pavilion and a park area with game tables and bocce courts.

Francis puts it best, saying the winery is meant to be "a wine wonderland, a park of pleasure where people of all ages can enjoy all the best things in life – food, wine, music, dancing, games, swimming and performances of all types. A place to celebrate the love of life."

While Sonoma County is acclaimed—and rightfully so—for its Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Zinfandels, it also produces exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Of the region’s 18 American Viticultural Areas, only a handful produce top-notch Cabernet Sauvignon. These appellations include Alexander Valley, Knights Valley, Sonoma Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignons made in these appellations can offer a complex array of aromas and flavors. Fruit notes such as blackberry, blackcurrant, cassis, black cherry and raspberry often are accompanied by hints of graphite, dusty earth, cigar box, toast and vanilla. The varietal has a rich history in Sonoma, and some of these Cabernet Sauvignons and Cabernet-based blends rival the best from Napa Valley.
