Winemaker Notes

A vivid and complex wine, the Gallo Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon displays currant, cassis, dark fruit, chocolate and cherry on the palate. Velvety tannins meld with hints of warm oak to create a long, supple finish. Blended with a touch of Petit Verdot to enhance the overall structure of the wine and add a deep richness to the mouthfeel.

Another outstanding effort coming from primarily Napa Valley, but with a small amount from Sonoma Valley fruit, is their blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Petite Sirah. The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature Series Cabernet Sauvignon spent 19 months in 43% new French oak and 15% new American oak. A big wine from this great vintage for Bordeaux varieties, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon has a good 25-30 years of upside to it. Coming from all of the estate vineyards – most of it from the William Hill Estate, but some from Monte Rosso, this wine offers a dense, opaque bluish purple color, notes of pen ink, graphite, blackberry and blueberry, a big full-bodied, fleshy texture (15% natural alcohol) and a long finish with plenty of structured tannin and good acidity. This is a wine that proves what superb quality Gallo can produce even at the top of the hierarchy. Rating: 93+

This plump, round Cab has captivating energy and drive. The delicate purple flower and sweet liquorice tones seem to defy the boldly tannic, assertive style with its long chocolatey finish.

Gallo Signature Series, California
Gallo Signature Series Winery Image
The Gallo Signature Series honors the journey the Gallo Family started in 1933, and it celebrates how far the family has come. With some of California's best grapes at her fingertips, third-generation winemaker Gina Gallo has created three distinct wines that could only be crafted from the Gallo family's unique combination of vineyards. For Gina, the Gallo Signature Series expresses her family's unique combination of vineyards. For Gina, the Gallo Signature Series expresses her family's passion for great vineyards and great wine, and it reflects the best the Gallo Winery has to offer. The Gallo Signature Series marks a return to hands-on, artisanal winemaking for Gina, and it brings to life the enduring legacy of Ernest and Julio Gallo.

One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.

Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
