Winemaker Notes

Combining the style of Chablis and the ripe fruit flavors of California Chardonnay, our Sonoma Coast Chardonnay is crisp and flinty, with complex layers of lime and green apple framed by spice and an elegant, mineral-inflected finish. A moderate, extended growing season, coupled with a long, cool fermentation, preserved this wine’s signature bright acidity.

From a prime spot in the heart of the Russian River Valley, tended to by the producer, this is a seamless, impressive wine. It has a healthy sense of self, offering luxurious layers of creamy texture and body, supported by a crunchy apple-skin flavor and light minerality.

Gallo Signature Series Winery Image
The Gallo Signature Series honors the journey the Gallo Family started in 1933, and it celebrates how far the family has come. With some of California's best grapes at her fingertips, third-generation winemaker Gina Gallo has created three distinct wines that could only be crafted from the Gallo family's unique combination of vineyards. For Gina, the Gallo Signature Series expresses her family's unique combination of vineyards. For Gina, the Gallo Signature Series expresses her family's passion for great vineyards and great wine, and it reflects the best the Gallo Winery has to offer. The Gallo Signature Series marks a return to hands-on, artisanal winemaking for Gina, and it brings to life the enduring legacy of Ernest and Julio Gallo.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.

A vast appellation covering Sonoma County’s Pacific coastline, the Sonoma Coast AVA runs all the way from the Mendocino County border, south to the San Pablo Bay. The region can actually be divided into two sections—the actual coastal vineyards, marked by marine soils, cool temperatures and saline ocean breezes—and the warmer, drier vineyards further inland, which are still heavily influenced by the Pacific but not quite with same intensity.

Contained within the appellation are the much smaller Fort Ross-Seaview and Petaluma Gap AVAs.

The Sonoma Coast is highly regarded for elegant Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and, increasingly, cool-climate Syrah. The wines have high acidity, moderate alcohol, firm tannin, and balanced ripeness.
