Rounded aromas of Asian and Bosc pear are cut by lime juice and wet cement on the nose of this bottling, which includes 15% Picpoul Blanc and 8% Viognier. There is a lively stony quality to the palate, from wet gravel to slate, as well as flavors of honeysuckle and white fruit.

COMMENTARY: The 2017 Halter Ranch Grenache Blanc is an excellent wine, and one of the best examples of this grape variety from the New World. TASTING NOTES: This wine is bright, fresh, and lasting. Pair its lively aromas and flavors of dried peach and mineral notes with shredded smoked chicken tossed with lettuce, pickled scallions, and toasted sesame seeds. Producing full-bodied white wines, Grenache Blanc can be unctuous and soft or floral and fresh. Some of the finest examples are terroir-driven, age-worthy wines. It is a key ingredient in white Châteauneuf-du-Pape and many white blends across southern France and NE Spain. Somm Secret—Grenache Blanc plays a key role in the vins doux naturels of Rivesaltes and a subsidiary role in those of Banyuls and Maury.
