Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Clear, gold and sparkling in appearance. Tiny, delicate bubbles. Citrus fruit and yellow fruit aromas dominate on the palate, together with vine peach and nectarine, and a discrete floral, blossom dimension. Subtle notes of honey and candied lemon bring a full-flavored edge, together with silky character. Freshness and airy lightness command on the palate. Grapefruit, apricot, citron, and fresh citrus fruit come to life, followed by lingering notes of pate de fruit, yet constantly underscored by great minerality. Very long, refined, silky, and refreshing on the finish. Low dosage brings with it exquisitely harmonious balance.

Professional Ratings

Packed with fruit while hinting at mature toastiness, this wine is now in perfect balance. Its white fruits are from half-and-half Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, shot through with acidity while having a ripe character. Rich while also crisp, it is ready to drink.

COMMENTARY: You will never see me turning down vintage Champagne, and the 2008 Henriot is an excellent effort. TASTING NOTES: This wine is fresh, complex, and lasting. Its aromas and flavors of ripe stone fruit, yeast, and earth should pair it well with roast chicken over crisp spinach and arugula. (Tasted: March 14, 2019, San Francisco, CA)

Mineral and sleek with notes of lemon zest, white grapefruit, apricot stones, white pepper and hints of jasmine tea, opening up to praline and almond pastries. It’s medium-bodied, with beautiful balance and freshness. Very fine bubbles. Saline and intense finish.

  • 93

Rich brioche and tropical fruit nose. The palate brings notes of herbs and baking spice, plus citrus acidity. Very long, stony finish.

  • 92
An elegant version, featuring expressive ripe white peach and strawberry fruit flavors, layered with biscuit, kumquat, smoky mineral and ground ginger notes. Finely knit and creamy in texture, with vibrant acidity driving the racy finish. Drink now through 2028.

Henriot Winery Video

Founded in 1808 by Apolline Henriot, Henriot is one of the most historic Champagne Houses with more than two hundred years of heritage and savoir-faire. When she founded the house, it was Apolline's desire to "shine a light on her lands through a Champagne." Guided by a manual about viticulture and winemaking in Champagne written by her great-uncle, she had a profound understanding of the vines and the environment in which they take root, (known today as terroir). Apolline believed that "wine is written in the vineyard," a founding principle that continues to guide the house through today's environmental challenges.

Since 2020, Henriot has focused on the preservation of the vineyards and the terroirs under the leadership of Cellar Master and Vines Director Alice Tétienne. Born and raised in Champagne, she is one of the youngest and the few females in Champagne to hold the position and has an impressive background in viticulture, oenology, and communication. Tétienne was awarded the “Best Winemaker of the Year” in 2020 by Trophées Champenois, named a “Top 100 Master Winemakers” by the Drinks Business in 2023 and shortlisted as "Sparkling Winemaker of the year 2023" by IWC.

She founded Alliance Terroir in 2020, a collective that works together in favor of the preservation of the terroirs in the context of global climate warming and the need to account for environmental and societal challenges. This includes training and support of grower partners through the HVE (“Haute Valeur Environementale”) and VDC ("Viticulture Durable en Champagne") certification processes, to conduct the vineyards in sustainable ways, and adapting to climate change. She has also demonstrated an actionable approach in sustainability through carbon reduction and recycling.
