Joostenberg is a 5th generation family business situated in the Muldersvlei district of Stellenbosch. They have always practiced traditional mixed farming but have expanded over the years. Ventures now include a deli, pork specialist butchery, bistro, events venue and Stellies Taproom, organic vineyard farming and boutique wine production, seasonal cut flowers, herbs and vegetables. They believe in producing and sourcing great quality, authentic products and supplying them directly to the public, right here on their farm.

Winemaking is not about systems and recipes. Not if you want to make distinctive wines. Everything done at Joostenberg's winery (and vineyards) is aimed at ensuring that their wines are both delicious and true to their origin.

Since great wines begin with great grapes, Joostenberg's aim is to grow the best possible grapes in as "natural" a way as possible – hence organics, dry-farming, etc. They simply then guide the wines through the winemaking process without the interference of unnecessary additives or modifications. Some call this "minimalist winemaking".

A charmer in the Southern Rhône Valley, Cinsault thrives in any hot and windy climate, and finds success in many other countries. It is a parent grape alongside Pinot Noir, of South Africa’s acclaimed red grape, Pinotage. Somm Secret—Given its relatively long history in California, Cinsualt is often “hidden” in the Zinfandel blends of Sonoma and Contra Costa Counties. Historically planted alongside Zinfandel (with Petite Sirah and Mourvedre) in the same vineyard, Cinsault is now an essential part of many “field blends.”

Flanked by majestic mountains on either side, the Paarl district is a valley whose most valuable water source is the Berg River. While sometimes during dry and hot summers, the vineyards in the valley need supplemental irrigation, those vineyards on the eastern slopes where water retention is better, aren't irrigated.

Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc enjoy great success in Paarl.
