The 2011 Touriga Nacional was aged for ten months in new French oak. It comes in at 13.9% alcohol. Sourced from vines planted in 2003, this late-released Touriga is remarkably graceful. It is precise, seductively textured and beautifully structured. The tannins still provide some intensity, but they are moderate and in balance with the rest of the wine. In general, its balance is impeccable, making it seem light in the mouth, but still very serious. Laced with hints of plum and blackberry on the finish, this Touriga finishes well, too, always dry and reserved, even with the nod to fruitiness. Now, it doesn't have big concentration and mouthfeel, but for those who like them a little understated, this is quite beautiful at the moment. At least at the moment, it's well worth leaning up a little. It should hang on well for several more years, maybe more, but why wait?

Producing some of the country’s most dignified and mineral-driven red wines, Dão is positioned in north central Portugal where granite mountains surround and shelter the region from any Atlantic maritime influence. Summers are long and warm; winters see abundant rainfall.
