Composed of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc, 8% Petit Verdot and 11% Malbec, the 2018 Rindo Proprietary Red has a deep garnet-purple color, featuring notes of baked black cherries, stewed plums, boysenberries and warm cassis plus suggestions of wild sage, underbrush and cloves. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating black fruits with a firm frame of rounded tannins and lively herbal accents, finishing long and savory.

Lots of black fruit on the nose with chocolate, earth and dried thyme. Full-bodied with creamy tannins. Polished, round and velvety texture with chocolatey character. Flavorful finish.

Another blend from this team, the 2018 Red Blend Rindo is based on 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 11% Malbec, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It offers a rich, up-front, nicely fruited style carrying plenty of spiced red and black currants, cherries, dried tobacco, loamy soil, and cedary herb-like aromas and flavors. With medium to full-bodied richness, no hard edges, and a clean finish, it’s another candidate for drinking any time over the coming 10-12 years.

Undoubtedly proving its merit over and over, Napa Valley is a now a leading force in the world of prestigious red wine regions. Though Cabernet Sauvignon dominates Napa Valley, other red varieties certainly thrive here. Important but often overlooked include Merlot and other Bordeaux varieties well-regarded on their own as well as for their blending capacities. Very old vine Zinfandel represents an important historical stronghold for the region and Pinot noir is produced in the cooler southern parts, close to the San Pablo Bay.

Perfectly situated running north to south, the valley acts as a corridor, pulling cool, moist air up from the San Pablo Bay in the evenings during the hot days of the growing season, which leads to even and slow grape ripening. Furthermore the valley claims over 100 soil variations including layers of volcanic, gravel, sand and silt—a combination excellent for world-class red wine production.
