COMMENTARY: The 2018 Kosta Browne Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is beautiful and refined. TASTING NOTES: This wine exhibits a bounty of boysenberries, a note of licorice, nicely-integrated oak. Pair it with dill-accented, grilled salmon. (Tasted: June 13, 2020, San Francisco, CA)

Fascinating sour-cherry and redcherry flavors take the lead in this impeccably balanced and nicely concentrated wine. Medium body and moderate tannins give it excellent structure for mid-term aging, Best from 2023.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2018 Pinot Noir Anderson Valley is the inaugural vintage of an Anderson Valley appellation Pinot Noir from Kosta Browne. Fruit comes from the Cerise and Ferrington vineyards. Pale to medium ruby, its intense fruits are tempered by fine earthy accents. It has a firm, grainy frame, well woven freshness and long finish.

Wine & Spirits
This is the first release of Kosta Browne’s Ander-son Valley Pinot, blended from fruit grown at Cerise Vineyard in the hills and the Fer-rington Vineyard at the foot of the hills north of Boonville. It offers the ripeness of Califor-nia fruit without tasting sweet, a dense wine with blueberry and woodland mushroom scents, sappy and structured. For beef with black mushrooms.

Anderson Valley, located in Mendocino County just above Sonoma County, is one of California’s coolest AVAs, allowing it a long growing season. Only 15 miles long, the region makes a slice eastward through the mountains, from the frigid Pacific Ocean. Dramatic diurnal temperature variations here preserve grape acidity and thus freshness in the finished wines. These are prime conditions for growing Pinot Noir, and the valley produces many fine versions. Characteristics of Anderson Valley Pinot Noir typically include crisp acidity, cranberry and strawberry notes as well as earthy notes of forest floor and mushroom.
Still Pinot Noir, however, is only part of the story. Pinot Noir, along with Chardonnay, are also grown for Anderson Valley’s exceptional sparkling wines. Produced via the traditional method, these offer a classic toasty note from lees aging, bright, complex fruit notes and a clean, refreshing character.
