The 2008 Chianti Classico offers up plums, violets, minerals, leather and tobacco on a rich, articulated frame that literally explodes on the palate with a burst of dark red fruit. A tense, wiry finish gives the wine fabulous length. So far, I have tasted very little in 2008 Chianti Classico that is truly exciting, but this is a notable and very welcome exception.
