Winemaker Notes

A dark ruby hue glistens in the glass. Rich notes of fresh plum, blueberry, and cherry are repeated and buoyed in the mouth by leather and rich, soft, elegant, polished tannins. Cocoa, acacia and the essence of garrigue (the scents of the herbaceous and woody plants particular to the French countryside in Provence) labor long through the spicy finish.

42% Grenache, 33% Syrah, 25% Mourvedre

James Suckling

A wonderful purity of dark fruits such as raspberries, blackberries and strawberries with a touch of minerals. Full and very racy with super refined tannins and a long finish. This is super classy. Wonderful texture. Better to try in 2013. 42% Grenache, 33% Syrah, 25% Mourvedre.

Vinous / Antonio Galloni

The 2009 Cote a Cote emerges from the glass with dark black cherries, plums, cassis, spices and white flowers. Sweet, silky tannins frame the exceptionally long, polished finish. This is another superb, totally elegant wine from L’Aventure. The blend is 42% Grenache, 33% Syrah and 25% Mourvedre, with a total of 50% new French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019.

Vivid ruby. Explosive aromas of black raspberry, boysenberry, incense and star anise, with a hint of vanilla. Bright and energetic, with excellent clarity to its sweet berry and cherry-cola flavors. A suave floral nuance gains strength with air and carries through the very long, spicy, seamless finish.

L'Aventure was founded in 1998 by a French winemaker, Stephan Asseo. After Stephan graduated enology school in Burgundy, the Asseo family bought their first estate, Domaine de Courteillac, in the Bordeaux area in 1982. Later, the family purchased additional properties: Château Robin and Château Fleur-Cardinale in Saint-Emilion. Stephan raised these properties to a level of great quality, while managing some other well-established domaines such as Château Guillot-Clauzel in Pomerol and Château Corbin in St Emilion....
