Winemaker Notes

Thea Lemelson likes her Pinots on the racy side - deeply fruity, rich and satisfying, with softer tannins while still having the firm acidic backbone needed to pair easily with fine cuisine. Thea wants the complexity that comes from low yields and minimal intervention in the winery without having to wait a decade. Thea's Pinot Noir is indeed a "selection," a Reserve-level blend that brings together elements selected from individual barrels showing the most juicy, forward, perfumed, racy fruit, while still having the requisite tannins needed to age and gain in complexity. In our blending tasting selections, we have kept Thea's wishes in mind and have tried to please her... we hope you are also tickled!

Lemelson, Oregon
Lemelson Introduction to Lemelson Winery Video

Lemelson Vineyards began as a dream - a dream to create a winery that celebrates innovation in technology, sustainability through nature, and tradition in winemaking.

Eric Lemelson started Lemelson Vineyards with the intention of building something that would not only serve their consumers, but also the longevity of the pristine state that he calls home. Utilizing organic farming methods and gravity flow production, they craft estate grown Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Riesling from some of the finest vineyards in the Willamette Valley.

Their commitment to the process extends to all facets of the winery life and ensures that all living components be they land, vine, or human - are well cared for. It’s their belief that the glass you’re enjoying at home starts before vines were ever planted. The process from planting to drinking must be nurtured at all steps.

When you drink Lemelson wine, you are not only drinking an elegant expressive Oregon Pinot, you’re taking part in their journey to protect the earth for generations to come and they thank you for that.

While the Willamette Valley and Pinot Noir are a like a fairy tale match made in heaven, most of Oregon is in fact, a glorious source of Pinot noir. Claiming over half of its total area under vine, Pinot noir also thrives in Southern Oregon’s Umpqua and Rogue Valleys where sedimentary and volcanic soils dominate hillside vineyards and cool temperatures create the perfect environment for Pinot noir. Also, Oregon’s Columbia Gorge is becoming increasingly popular for Pinot noir production. What sets Oregon Pinot noir apart from the Pinot of other regions, both New and Old World, is its innate combination of grace with both power and restraint.
