Winemaker Notes

Tangible proof of elegance, balance and constancy characteristic of the Marques de Murrieta Winery and its surrounding vineyards situated in the Ygay Estate, it is a red reserva wine with a balanced aging of two years in new and partly new American oak barrels and a year and a half in bottle. The result is an elegant wine that combines complexity and fineness, summing up the best attributes of Marques de Murrieta’s identity and actuality.

Pairing suggestions include steamed and grilled hake loin, prawns with their coral and truffle aroma; baked unsalted cod with onion and green peppers; red beans stew with pork feet and cabbage; grilled beef tenderloin, green asparagus and carrot purée; creamy carnaroli rice with truffles and foie mi - cuit; selection of creamy and blue cheeses, red wine compote and sour cherries.

Blend: 83% Tempranillo, 9% Graciano, 5% Mazuelo, 3% Garnacha.

A sleek texture delivers bright cherry and red plum flavors, with leafy, licorice and vanilla notes. Firm tannins and racy acidity give this focus. A fresh and energetic red. Drink now through 2025.

Marques de Murrieta, Spain
Marques de Murrieta Winery Video
Marques de Murrieta is named after Luciano de Murrieta, one of the founding fathers of modern Rioja winemaking, who established the estate in 1852 in the world-renowned Rioja region of Spain. Today V. Dalmau Cebrian-Sagarriga, Count of Creixell, leads the family-owned company. With a vision of innovation and respect for tradition, Marques de Murrieta is rooted in strong, historical fundamentals that shape the vision and philosophy of this iconic Spanish brand. The winery is near the southern tip of the Rioja Alta in the middle of the beautiful Ygay Estate, a unique 300-hectare vineyard that guarantees complete control over the grape source and is the key to the quality and style of Marques de Murrieta wines.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
