Winemaker Notes

Luscious and rich with a seamless integration of oak, fruit and fermentation characters, Matchbook's 2014 The Arsonist Chardonnay showcases the excellence of the Dunnigan Hills. We selected the best barrel lots of our estate-grown fruit to make this Chardonnay. With incredible aromas of pineapple and papaya mingling with French oak and butterscotch, this wine just beckons to be tasted. Flavors of tropical fruit and caramel tantalize with notes of vanilla and barrel spice. The Arsonist Chardonnay is big, creamy, yet welcoming in its nuanced integration.

Pair with fettuccini alfredo, chicken liver mousse or poached lobster in drawn butter.

There is no denying the appeal of this full-bodied Chardonnay from a remote stretch of Northern California. It smells like grilled and buttered baguette slices and Bosc pears, and tastes ripe, fruity and almost as rich as hazelnuts. Creamy in texture, it lingers long on the finish, with subtle acidity for good balance.Editors' Choice

Golden color; lush and smooth with burnished, toasted fruit and rich texture; firm, stylish and balanced with good length and depth.

East of Napa, Left of Center: The Giguiere family embodies Dunnigan Hills winemaking. In 1981 they pioneered grape growing in this region when they planted their first vineyard. By 1993, they had succeeded in creating the Dunnigan Hills as a nationally recognized American appellation. The Matchbook flame is an homage to the Giguiere brothers’ youthful fascination with fire. Today, Matchbook Wine Company produces wines showcasing the varietals that perform best in their Northern California climate.

One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.
