Winemaker Notes
Azienda Vitivinicola Pier can be found on the hill of Treiso, just a few miles from Alba and Barbaresco. It is a winery distinguished by its wines, which recount stories of passion for the earth and cultivation, stories of tradition, dedication; it is a company that lives in harmony with nature, which patiently waits for the best time to harvest grapes and process must, in order to produce an outstanding and robust final product.
Given the limited use of sulphites, absence of additives of animal origin, and concern for the environment, evident in both the vineyards and the use of lightweight glass packaging, Azienda Vitivinicola Pier strives to ensure a wine and an environment that is healthier for all.
Attracting the most glory, prestige and fame to the Piedmont region, Nebbiolo in all of its expressions—Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero, Ghemme and Gattinara—creates a complex wine, truly unique for its delicate qualities combined with strength and a great potential to improve over time.
But Nebbiolo isn’t all there is to red wine from Piedmont! Barbera is the most planted variety and historically most popular as a dependable, food-friendly, everyday wine.
Beyond these two, a surprising number of red varieties call Piedmont their home. Worth a try include Dolcetto for its bold concentration and aromas of spice cake. Other grapes to investigate include Freisa, Croatina, Brachetto, Grignolino and Pelaverga.
