Of intense ruby red color, it has enchanting floral aromas accompanied by tobacco and leathery notes. On the mouth, it's powerful and full-bodied to the palate, with soft and mature tannins and a very long and elegant finish.
The 2009 Alpha Syrah contains 7% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Viognier. It spent 12 months in French oak. The aromatics receive a pleasing lift from the Viognier component in addition to notes of meat, game, lavender, and blueberry. Rich, layered, and long, this pleasure-bent Syrah has the structure to evolve for another 2-3 years and will be at its best from 2013 to 2021.
