This age worthy Bordeaux blend displays intense aromas of blackcurrant and raspberry that intermingle with rose petal andjasmine. Underlying layers of cherry and violet are strengthened byhints of licorice and thyme. Classic flavors of earth and sweet cherryemerge on the palate with supporting vanilla and mocha nuances. A natural acidity keeps this stunning winebeautifully balanced.
Blend: 48% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot

The 2010 Morgenster sees 18 months in French oak of which 60% is new. It has a lifted menthol-tinged bouquet that is reminiscent of Right Bank Bordeaux. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent strawberry and raspberry fruit, fine tannins and a fine line of acidity. There is an attractive caressing texture here and an understated finish that completes this commendable, classic-styled Merlot.
Morgenster is a 300-year-old wine estate in Stellenbosch once part of the historic thriving farm, Vergelegen, owned by Cape Governor Willem Adriaan van der Stel. Current owner, Giulio Bertrand, hailing from Piedmont, Italy, retired to South Africa and purchased the farm in 1992. His focus is on producing world class Bordeaux-style wines of the highest quality. The estate’s wine consultant is Pierre Lurton, managing director of France's Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateaux d’Yquem, names synonymous with regarded Bordeaux blends.The winemaking team's philosophy is to let every vintage determine the blend, crafting wines with an extraordinary ability to age.
