Winemaker Notes
Amazing wine takes time. From Round Mountain Vineyard OVIS has produced this rich, wonderfully aromatic, and mouthfilling wine. It took three years to find the best block of Cabernet on their Home Ranch and two years aging in barrel to let the fruit components and tannin meld naturally. For this vintage they blended in 30% of their Circle O Cabernet, a young vineyard, just starting to show off.
Aromas of dried fruits, black currants, toasted hazelnuts, and dark chocolate fuse with flavors of savory herbs, worn leather, dried cherries and French oak to resonate up through the glass.

Full of black cherries, black olives and blackberries, this firmly structured and full-bodied wine wraps its fruit in firm, fine-grained tannins and spices them with oak notes of cinnamon, cedar and wood smoke.

COMMENTARY: The 2017 OVIS Cabernet Sauvignon is smooth on the palate and stays long in the finish. TASTING NOTES: This wine offers aromas and flavors of black fruit, dried earth, and savory spices. Enjoy it with a grilled garlic and rosemary-infused leg of lamb. (Tasted: June 11, 2022, San Francisco, CA)

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
Sitting on the northeast side of the Clear Lake appellation, this warm area boasts multiple soil types that allow growers a lot of flexibility and experimentation with grape varieties. While Sauvignon blanc is a mainstay, this zone excels with Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, as well as other less common varieties like Barbera and Tempranillo.
