Penfolds St. Henri Shiraz 2005
The color is a dark garnet with a deep core. The nose is floral, perfumed, fresh. Boiled-fruitcake mix -nutmeg / cinnamon and mixed spices are lacedwith glaceed (Cointreau-like) citrus fruits. Subtle praline & liquorice trail on the finish. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied with an acid/tannin conveyance propelling flavor to the back-palate. Balanced yet taut, with a continuum of flavours -sarsaparilla, beetroot, lemon, blackcurrant. Nutmeg, red liquorice &... View More
Aromatic, complex and silky, slipping in its gorgeous blackberry, currant and plum fruit against a seething background of toast, spice, mineral and loamy earth. The texture is seamless, and the flavors just take off, sailing through the long, expressive finish. Best from 2011 through 2020.
A substantial wine in all respects, with more richness and mouthfeel than many of the 1980s and '90s; the array of black fruits with a twist of cassis is perfectly balanced, as is the oak and tannin support.
Deep ruby-red. Sexy aromas of blackberry, blueberry, incense, dried flowers, cola and vanilla. Lush, creamy and sweet, offering deep dark berry compote flavors, velvety texture and mounting spiciness. The sweet dark berry notes echo through a strikingly long, juicy and focused finish. Bet on this to improve for at least another decade but there's plenty of appeal right now.
