Winemaker Notes

Layers is a unique blend that delivers a highly enjoyable journey ofdiscovery for the senses in each and every glass. Shiraz delivers fruit depth and structure, combining beautifully with the aromatics and spiciness of Grenache, Mourvedre adds wild earthy notes to the blend and melds together with the firm, savory character of Tempranillo, to surround and soften the palate of this multi-dimensional wine.

This wine perfectly complements a wide variety of game, Mediterranean influenced dishes and spicy Indian curries.

Blend: 55% Shiraz, 18% Tempranillo, 17% Mourvedre, 10% Grenache

Critical Acclaim

WS 90
Wine Spectator

Supple, velvety and generous with its red berry, cherry and cream flavors, mingling on the long and easygoing finish. Shiraz, Tempranillo, Mourvedre, Grenache and Counoise. Drink now through 2016.

JH 90
Australian Wine Companion

A Mediterranean blend in every respect and the fresh Provencal herb character is palpable; a juicy, medium-bodied wine that is pleasant, fleshy and savoury all at the same time; a drink to enjoy without pretense. Shiraz/Tempranillo/Mourvedre/Grenache.

The Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked...

The [Napa Valley] and [Cabernet Sauvignon] are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without thinking of the other. Although Cabernet has many important outposts throughout the wine world, nowhere else has it achieved such success (and, at the highest end, commanded such lofty prices) than in Napa. Here, it is responsible for bold, opulent, and dark-fruited wines with grippy tannins and a healthy dose of alcohol. The best examples can age for decades. Each of Napa’s smaller sub-AVAs imparts a different character to Cabernet, such as [Rutherford’s] famous dust or [Stags Leap District's] tart cherry flavors.
