Winemaker Notes
A wine of conspicuous magnitude, it presents itself as compact and very concentrated with prominent varietal character. Deep, compact garnet red with violet reflections. The aromatic variety is characterized by violets, bitter chocolate, wild berries, licorice, and vanilla. Velvety, with soft tannins, prominent structure, very long and lasting in flavor
Pair with hearty red meat dishes, game, and sharp cheeses.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Perfumed and fruity at the same time, the barrique-aged 2016 Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva Furggl is a dark red wine with thick, blackish veins of concentrated color. The bouquet offers varietal aromas of red rose petal, dried cherry and chewy blackberry. The tannins are soft and caressing, and the wine is relatively creamy in texture with a point of bitterness on the close.

James Suckling

Since the establishment of our family business in 1928 the winery Peter Zemmer has been producing top-quality wines on finest estates in and around Cortina s.s.d.v. in Alto Adige.
Peter Zemmer’s experience and spirit of innovation, together with the perfect natural environment, guarantees the quality and the expressive character of the wines, in harmony with the surrounding nature.
The expressive character of the wines is formed in the vineyard. Intensive nurturing of the grapevines as well as the careful selection are the essential prerequisites for the authentic wines. Peter Zemmer attaches great importance to the production of natural wines that accurately reflect their character of origin and expressively unite the unique terrain.
The fascinating interplay between tradition and innovation, man and the surroundings, sense and sensuality finds expression in the passion and sensitivity with which Peter Zemmer brings his wines to life.
Incredibly concentrated and uncommonly sturdy in character, Lagrein has roots in the Alto Adige area and has recently experienced a great renaissance in popularity. While the climate is cool there, the sun is intense on the region’s steep slopes. Warm hillsides near the bustling city of Bolzano create the perfect environment for the production of intense reds from Lagrein. Somm Secret— Lagrein Kretzer (German) or Rosato (Italian) is the spicy rosé version, which is delicious with smoked fish and white meat.
