Winemaker Notes

Deep ruby red in color, this wine offers aromas of raspberries, bramble, mint, eastern spices, coffee and licorice. It is elegant on the palate with soft, silky tannins. The finish is long, meaty and chewy.

Pairs well with traditional Italian dishes, red meat and game.

Professional Ratings

A pure expression of Cabernet Franc (aged in barrique for 18 months), the 2014 Poggio de' Colli shows fine texture and bold intensity. The bouquet is beautifully polished and integrated with black fruit, spice, leather, smoke and balsam herb. This wine stands apart for the very nuanced and fine personality it shows in the mouth. It covers the palate with silky intensity but it delivers power and momentum at the same time. This is a terrific wine in an underrated vintage.

A pure cabernet franc with ripe fruit, black cherry and anise. Light to medium body with velvety tannins. A fresh finish. Drink now. Why wait?

Piaggia Piaggia Vineyards Winery Image

Piaggia is located right in the heart of Carmignano. The total vineyard extension is approximately 15 hectares, divided between the area of S. Cristina a Mezzana and the municipality of Poggio a Caiano, both areas with a great potential for top quality wines. Mauro Vannucci started this activity in 1990 because of his great passion for great red wines, with the aim to produce wines up to the standard of Carmignano appellation. In its almost 20 years of existence, Piaggia has managed to solidly establish its place among the great wineries of the classic Tuscan DOC of Carmignano, being called by Gambero Rosso “one of the best wineries in the region of Carmignano, rather, in Tuscany.”
