Why go to Bordeaux when one can hang out in Argentina and drink the outstanding 2011 Pulenta Gran Corte VII. Medium red to deep ruby fruit, wild some red fruit notes, red currants with some jamminess and yes some wood; medium bodied, rich and volume-like on the palate; dry, medium acidity, well balanced; classy ripe fruit flavors, lots of currants, a fair amount of oak and some sweet earth, excellent persistence; long finish and rich aftertaste. (Tasted: May 29, 2015, San Francisco, CA)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2011 Gran Corte VII is a complex blend of 43% Malbec, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 3% Tannat from their vineyards in Agrelo. This is a classical blend aged for 18 months in new barrels, a process that has managed to slowly oxygenate the wine and polish its edges without leaving any harsh tannins or excessive oaky aromas behind. The nose is a classic mix of fruit, earth and spices. The palate show a little more of the leafy, peppery side of the varieties, with poised tannins and a remarkable finish. This has very good acidity.

The Pulenta family has been a prominent and respected force in Argentine viticulture for three generations. Sons of well-known winegrower Antonio Pulenta, and descendants of Italian immigrants, Eduardo and Hugo Pulenta founded Pulenta Estate in 2002. The vineyards are estate-owned and farmed for high quality and limited yields. Their extensive holdings in the Agrelo area of Lujan de Cuyo have allowed them to create a broad portfolio that includes sauvignon blanc, pinot gris, chardonnay and malbec rose; merlot, cabernet franc, malbec and cabernet sauvignon in several tiers and even a late harvest red blend.
