Winemaker Notes

This organically Grown Zinfandel has complex aromas and a bouquet of rich, bursting cherries and spices that captivates the senses. Round, rich flavors of raspberry and blackberry follow; and a subtle hint of vanilla helps provide a soft, lasting finish.

Blend: 83% Zinfandel, 14% Centurion, 3% Mixed Reds

Can an organically grown Zin be one of the best values and top wines in the marketplace? Yes it can! The 2013 Green Truck Zinfandel was one of 50 Zinfandels in a blind tasting that scored big on my scorecard. Shows wonderful ripe berry flavors, the wine is soft and persistent on the palate. Pair with grilled chicken and garden vegetables and enjoy. Drinks well now. (Tasted: July 19, 2016, San Francisco, CA)

START YOUR ENGINES The idea for Red Truck Wines began when Fred and Nancy Cline of Sonoma, California's Cline Cellars fell in love with a painting of a classic, old red truck, purchasing it at an auction benefiting the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art. Created by internationally renowned Sonoma-based artist Dennis Ziemienski, the light-filled painting of a vintage truck set against a typical Sonoma landscape of soft, golden hills, bright blue sky and cotton ball clouds seemed destined to become a sensational new wine label with universal appeal.

Unapologetically bold, spice-driven and jammy, Zinfandel has secured its title as the darling of California vintners by adapting well to the state's diverse microclimates and landscapes. Born in Croatia, it later made its way to southern Italy where it was named Primitivo. Fortunately, the imperial nursery of Vienna catalogued specimens of the vine, and it later made its way to New England in 1829. Parading the true American spirit, Zinfandel found a new home in California during the Gold Rush of 1849. Somm Secret—California's ancient vines of Zinfandel are those that survived the neglect of Prohibition; today these vines produce the most concentrated, ethereal and complex examples.

A large and diverse appellation within California’s North Coast AVA, Mendocino is home to several smaller sub-regions—most notably the Anderson Valley. This scenic region, with rolling hills covered in redwood forests as well as vineyards, is one of the world’s top producers of certified organically-grown grapes. Due to wide geographical and climatic variation, a vast array of wine styles can be found here.
