    Winemaker Notes

Ricco Blueberry is a sweet red, made from selected grapes. It is full of flavor, yet soft and deliciously sweet. In order to create its richness, the stemmed grapes are placed in stainless steel tanks, where they are mace- rated in the skins at 50 degrees Fahrenheit, which extract the delicate aromas and color. The grape must is then separated and stored at 32 degrees Fahrenheit until bottling. Just prior to bottling, the must is allowed to warm, and the natural blueberry aromas are combined. Once the desired alcohol and pressure level is reached, fermentation is halted, it is filtered and bottled. The result is a deliciously smooth and elegant sweet wine specialty.

This sweet Italian red wine pairs well with fresh fruit and fruit tarts, chicken, charcuterie and seafood.

Attracting the most glory, prestige and fame to the Piedmont region, Nebbiolo in all of its expressions—Barolo, Barbaresco, Roero, Ghemme and Gattinara—creates a complex wine, truly unique for its delicate qualities combined with strength and a great potential to improve over time.

But Nebbiolo isn’t all there is to red wine from Piedmont! Barbera is the most planted variety and historically most popular as a dependable, food-friendly, everyday wine.

Beyond these two, a surprising number of red varieties call Piedmont their home. Worth a try include Dolcetto for its bold concentration and aromas of spice cake. Other grapes to investigate include Freisa, Croatina, Brachetto, Grignolino and Pelaverga.
