Winemaker Notes

The 2009 Ridge York Creek Zinfandel displays a cherry/plum nose with accents of fig and mint. Dark fruit flavors on the palate. This vintage has a full, tannic structure, firm acidity, a nicely-rounded finish.

Blend: 93% Zinfandel and 7% Petite Sirah

Connoisseurs' Guide

Like most Ridge Zinfandels, this one places a premium on structure and balance, but it is in all ways a bigger, gutsier wine that its partner from Lytton Springs, and it shows a lot of raw young power. Although it is presently roughed up by fairly evident tannins and shows the sturdiness of a mountain-grown wine, it is charged with lots of pure berry-like fruit that survives its finishing astringency. Enjoy it now if you must with rustic stews, but know that it will not reach its peak for a good many years.

Opaque violet color. An intensely perfumed bouquet displays dark berry preserves, cherry-cola, vanilla and woodsmoke. Lush, palate-coating blackberry and boysenberry flavors are complicated by notes of licorice and candied violet. Shows very good intensity on the gently tannic finish, which clings with noteworthy tenacity.

The historic building now serves as the Ridge production facility.
