Winemaker Notes
Dark ruby. Fresh and ripe red fruit aromas are laced with a hint of burned orange and herbal characteristics. Apricots and plums are prominent on the palate with dark chocolate and blackberry flavors that add to a fuller mid-palate that has a lingering finish filled with ripe, grainy tannins.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Lush, rich and generous on the nose, the 2016 Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon boasts a dense core of blackberry, cassis and dark plum. The wine has dense "full throttle" nose with complex oak tones layered throughout with velvety purple flowers, mocha and cocoa notes. On the palate, the wine is tight and firm, having the breadth and depth of fine wine, showing structured layers of blackberry, boysenberry and juicy dark plum. Full-bodied with flavorful oak, mocha and lush fruit tones, the wine lingers with supple tannins, on the long generous finish. Barely 3,000 bottles were made from Cabernet that spent 22 months in French oak, half being brand-new. Give this one sometime in the cellar. Your patience will be rewarded. Rating: 91+

In 1991, President Nelson Mandela awarded the Merit award of export achievement to the estate. During this period, they tirelessly worked on building the Rust en Vrede brand into a world quality product. These efforts were rewarded in 1993 when President Mandela selected Rust en Vrede to be served at the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize banquet.
A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
South Africa’s most famous wine-producing district, Stellenbosch, surrounds the historic town with the same name; fine winemaking here dates back to the late 1600s. Its valleys of granite, sandstone and alluvial loam soils between the towering blue-grey mountains of Stellenbosch, Simonsberg and Helderberg have the capacity to produce beautiful wines from many varieties. The climate is warm Mediterranean, tempered by the cool Atlantic air of nearby False Bay.
Perhaps most well-known for its Pinotage and Bordeaux blends, Stellenbosch also produces noteworthy wines from Syrah, Chenin blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon blanc. The district’s wards—Banghoek, Bottelary, Devon Valley, Jonkershoek Valley, Papegaaiberg, Polkadraai Hills and Simonsberg-Stellenbosch—all produce distinctive wines from vines with relatively low yields.
