Bold spice, crushed earth and dazzling tangerine, mango and peach penetrate from nose to finish here. Slight in frame yet piercing like a sabre, it's a zesty, intensely concentrated Riesling that finishes on a long, delicately sweet finish. It's rejuvenating in youth but should drink at peak through 2028 and likely hold much further.

Wine Spectator
A broad, powerful kabinett, boasting yellow apple, lemon oil, brown spice and mineral aromas and flavors. The vibrant structure keeps it focused and balanced. More complexity emerges on the long finish. Lovely now, but those who wait will be rewarded.

James Suckling
Striking mineral aromas with stone, slate and a gentle, pastry-like edge. Plenty of limes and white-peach sorbet on the very juicy, lithe and agile palate – all of which are hallmarks of true Kabinett.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2018 Felseneck Riesling Kabinett opens clear and reductive but intense on the nose that is reminiscent of risotto rice. Lush and round but also clear and piquant on the palate, this is a very elegant, pure and bright Kabinett from the slate soils of the Felseneck.

The soils in the area consist of Porphyr, Melaphyr, weathered vulcanic rock, and a mixture of red loess, red slate, and blue slate from the devonian age.
While the dry wines are representatives of great quality, the noble sweet wines are among the best of the region. The estate has achieved numerous awards with Gault Millau and other German publications.
The Schäfer-Fröhlich Estate is a member of the VDP Nahe.
Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.
