Schafer-Frohlich Schiefergestein Riesling Trocken 2020
Winemaker Notes
Critical Acclaim
All VintagesThe hint of funk (reduction) needs a moment to blow off and twist in the flinty direction. Then the white-peach, grapefruit and cardamon aromas blossom. Very slatey and sleek palate that's extremely focused and pristine. Then the cool and elegant finish slowly lets you back down to earth. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold.

The soils in the area consist of Porphyr, Melaphyr, weathered vulcanic rock, and a mixture of red loess, red slate, and blue slate from the devonian age.
While the dry wines are representatives of great quality, the noble sweet wines are among the best of the region. The estate has achieved numerous awards with Gault Millau and other German publications.
The Schäfer-Fröhlich Estate is a member of the VDP Nahe.

Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.
