Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

A blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by sweet cassis fruit, graphite, and earth notes. Young, unevolved, fresh, lively, and beautifully textured, it should provide pleasure over the next 7-8 years.

"The outstanding 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Seguret is a brilliant wine as well as a fabulous bargain. Aromas of licorice, lavender, cassis, and kirsch emerge from this dense ruby/purple-hued offering. Full-bodied and pure with the sweet tannins that make this vintage so impressive, it can be enjoyed over the next 5-6 years."

In addition to running the legendary Chateauneuf-du-Pape estate Domaine du Pegau with her father, Paul, Laurence Féraud manages a successful négociant wine business under the "Sélection Laurence Féraud" label. HPS is the exclusive U.S. importer of these fantastic wines, which are true gems of the Southern Rhône

There are six wines, three from Rhône Appellations including Chateauneuf, the others a mix of one Languedoc Appellation wine, one Vin de Pays and a fine and fascinating Vin de Table!

With bold fruit flavors and accents of sweet spice, Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre form the base of the classic Rhône Red Blend, while Carignan, Cinsault and Counoise often come in to play. Though they originated from France’s southern Rhône Valley, with some creative interpretation, Rhône blends have also become popular in other countries. Somm Secret—Putting their own local spin on the Rhône Red Blend, those from Priorat often include Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In California, it is not uncommon to see Petite Sirah make an appearance.

Typically thought of as a baby Chateâuneuf-du-Pape, the term Côtes du Rhône actually doesn’t merely apply to the flatter outskirts of the major southern Rhône appellations, it also includes the fringes of well-respected northern Rhône appellations. White wines can be produced under the appellation name, but very little is actually made.

The region offers some of the best values in France and even some first-rate and age-worthy reds. Red wine varieties include most of the Chateâuneuf-du-Pape varieties like Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, and Counoise, as well as Carignan. White grapes grown include Grenache blanc, Roussanne and Viognier, among others.
