Like all the Telmo Rodriguez wines from Toro, Dehesa Gago is 100% Tinto de Toro (the local clone of Tempranillo). This neutral cement casks and steel-tank fermeted wine is generous with its deep fruit, while showing a balance seldom seen in the region.
Inky ruby. Ripe red fruit and floral oils on the fragrant nose. Pliant and sweet, offering juicy raspberry and cherry compote flavors and deeper licorice and bitter chocolate nuances. Fine-grained tannins come on late and add grip to a long, spice- and smoke-accented finish. This wine drinks very well now after a bit of aeration.
Telmo Rodriguez is one of Spain’s pioneer winemakers, advocating native grape varietals tied to the climates and conditions of their sites, and making world-class wines from undiscovered as well as known regions. Perhaps most impressive, while Telmo Rodriguez makes rare and limited wines of astonishing character and quality, his everyday wines have been equally praised, and widely recognized for the tremendous value they offer.
