Winemaker Notes
This wine is the result of Tenuta di Ghizzano researches. It was first made in 1996, using Merlot grapes, and has evolved over the years into a blend together with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, demonstrating the potency, warmth and character that their territory can express. It is named after the founder of the Venerosi family, Nambrot, and who lived in 830.
Blend: 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petit Verdot

The first vintage of Nambrot was 1996. Initially 100% Merlot, it became a Bordeaux-style blend from 1998. Sourced from Ghizzano's oldest vineyards, the idea, Ginevra Venerosi Pesciolini tells me, is to maximise varietal character - the opposite of the Mimesi project, which is all about sense of place. Malo and ageing takes place in barriques (10% new). There's a Cabernet Franc herbal character with overtones of violet and chocolate - very opulently scented. Fleshy and perfumed, it's possible to discern some Petit Verdot spiciness, ending with a waft of herbs and chocolate.

Blackcurrant, tar and lead-pencil aromas, together with hints of fresh basil, following through to a medium body with medium, round tannins and a juicy finish. A little tight now. Better after 2024.

The Venerosi Pesciolini family settled in the upcoming and esoteric Colline Pisane area near Pisa in the 14th century. For 26 generations, the family has been growing vines, olive trees, and cereals with a deep respect for tradition and terroir. Since 1996 Countess Ginevra Venerosi Pesciolini has run the estate, continuing the tradition of award-winning wines. Tenuta di Ghizzano became certified organic in 2003 and has employed biodynamic principles since 2006.
“Our aim is to keep investing in biodynamic agriculture and viticulture to offer the market limited quantities of outstandingly high-quality products, reflecting the inherent characteristics offered by these gentle hills. Respect for nature, the place that sustains us and the people that live and work here; these are the principles that our family has always observed in its management of the Tenuta di Ghizzano estate and has handed down through the generations.” -- Ginevra Venerosi Pesciolini, Winemaker and Proprietor
Legendary in Italy for its Renaissance art and striking landscape, Tuscany is also home to many of the country’s best red wines. Sangiovese reigns supreme here, as either the single varietal, or a dominant player, in almost all of Tuscany’s best.
A remarkable Chianti, named for its region of origin, will have a bright acidity, supple tannins and plenty of cherry fruit character. From the hills and valleys surrounding the medieval village of Montalcino, come the distinguished and age-worthy wines based on Brunello (Sangiovese). Earning global acclaim since the 1970s, the Tuscan Blends are composed solely of international grape varieties or a mix of international and Sangiovese. The wine called Vine Nobile di Montepulciano, composed of Prognolo Gentile (Sangiovese) and is recognized both for finesse and power.
