    Winemaker Notes

This wine displays floral and fresh fruit characters on the nose, with a clean and minerally finish. The wine has a lovely balance and charm which is a beautiful reflection of the Hills region and a fitting tribute to visionary farming families like those of Thomas Goss.

    Thomas Goss, Australia
Thomas Goss Winemaker Alexia Roberts Winery Image
One of the original McLaren Vale pioneers, Thomas Goss, his wife Mary and their children arrived in South Australia from Devonshire in 1849. After success in the Victorian gold fields he established an iconic farming property in McLaren Vale which is now home to some of the region’s leading vineyards. These wines are a tribute to Thomas Goss's contribution to our beloved region.

McLaren Vale has an unrivalled reputation in Australia and indeed the world, for constantly producing first-class wines. It has one of the most consistent, Mediterranean-style climates in which to grow premium wine grapes.

The unequivocally cool climate of the Adelaide Hills and very old podsolic soils of low to moderate fertility make for ideal growing conditions. This gives the region an enviable and growing reputation for magnificent white grapes.

Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.

Adelaide refers to the diverse super zone in South Australia containing the Mount Lofty Ranges Zone (Adelaide Hills, Adelaide Plains and Clare Valley), Fleurieu Zone (Currency Creek, Kangaroo Island, Langhorne Creek, McLaren Vale, and Southern Fleurieu) and Barossa Zone (Barossa Valley and Eden Valley).

The Adelaide Hills region is distinguished and beautiful, offering a cool respite in the summer for Adelaide city dwellers. With vineyards planted fairly high in elevation at 1,500 to 1,800 feet, it is known for particularly fine, citrus-driven Sauvignon Blanc.

The Adelaide Plains is a hot region northwest of the Adelaide Hills that produces approachable, value-driven wines.
