Winemaker Notes
Deep purple in color, Redigaffi offers luscious layers of blueberry jam, ripe plum and blackberry, followed by voluptuous notes of dark chocolate, licorice, black pepper, vanilla and incense. Full-bodied and lush on the palate with polished tannins and an extra-long finish, Redigaffi is one of Italy’s greatest Merlots. A true masterpiece.
This wine pairs beautifully with dark-fruit chutney sauces, kalamata olive tapenade, Châteaubriand, and grilled pepper-crusted sirloins.

This is an extraordinary merlot with such purity and focus. Flowers such as violets and hints of orange peel. It is full-bodied yet incredibly energetic and structured. The finish goes on for minutes. Seamless texture. Fresh yet dense. Contrasty. Best Redigaffi ever. Hard not to drink now but a wine for decades.

COMMENTARY: One of the most amazing wines I have ever tasted—thanks to James Suckling and the producers for making this wine available to evaluate at the Great Wines of Italy tasting in San Francisco. When I first got to this wine, I was already aware that JS had given this wine 100 points. I was ready to taste and be skeptical as I am supposed to be, but this wine stole the show, now I can't get it out of my mind. While it started out slowly, it quickly took center stage and made my palate stand at attention. TASTING NOTES: The 2015 Tua Rita Redigaffi is one of the world's greatest Merlots. Intense in color and concentrated with blue and black fruits, this oak-accented full-bodied red shows incredible balance and class. The wine's completeness is undeniable. Decanter
This has a youthful nose dominated by exotic oak notes of cedar, incense, cigar box and cinnamon, interlaced with bright floral notes of violets, ripe blackcurrants and cream. It shows fantastic precision and intensity of flavour and aroma, with beautifully refined tannins, huge concentration and a seductively silky texture, gliding effortlessly across the palate. This wine is still very much a baby, but is already an obvious beauty! This 2015 vintage has everything going for it; it's so seductive and is approachable young, but will benefit from cellaring and will last for at least 20 years or more. Drinking Window 2019 - 2040

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2015 Redigaffi is dubbed "an explosive year" by the winery team. In fact, this Merlot is especially opulent and exuberant after a cool spring season and a hot summer. Fruit on the vine was picture-perfect, and I remember photographing clusters for my archive. My tasting notes describe dark cherry fruit, baker's chocolate and a soft lactic note. The wine wraps thickly over the palate, imparting sweet tannins, toasted oak and lots of abundant textural richness. This is a beauty that is still holding well.

Wine Spectator
Lush and polished, featuring a cashmere texture caressing vanilla, chocolate, black cherry and plum flavors. Well-balanced, with a persistent finish. The harmony hides a solid structure. Decant now. Merlot. Best from 2020 through 2032.

Rita Tua and her husband, Virgilio Bisti, bought approximately 37.5 acres of land in 1984 and planted it with Cabernet and Merlot. They later purchased an additional 17.5 acres of land, bringing the total estate to 55 acres, of which about 45 are planted with vines. The winery released its first vintage in 1992, and soon began receiving praise and accolades from wine enthusiasts worldwide for its rich, full-bodied wines. In just five short years, its 100% Merlot had achieved cult-like status, receiving outstanding ratings from the world’s most prestigious wine critics and publications. Critic Robert M. Parker Jr. said the 1999 Redigaffi was “as close to perfection as a wine can get.” The following year, he gave the 2000 Redigaffi a perfect 100 score. The winery’s Bordeaux blend, Giusti di Notri, also garners near-universal praise. Little wonder that Tua Rita’s wines are considered among the most difficult to find in Italy. Tua Rita is located in Suvereto, a small medieval town in the Tuscan province of Livorno, on the coast south of Bolgheri. The winery lies at just 300 feet above sea level, on clay, silty soil. Luca D'Attoma, the estate’s winemaker, keeps yields to a minimum to ensure concentration of flavors. The estate’s total annual production is currently just 3400 cases.
