Winemaker Notes

100% Nebbiolo

Great paired with a hearty stew, wild game, roasted red meats and cheeses.

The 2007 Barolo Castiglione deftly balances the open, radiant personality of the vintage with considerable underlying structure. Warm, dense and full-bodied, the 2007 Barolo Castiglione flows effortlessly across the palate with generous fruit and fabulous overall balance. The wine was even better when I tasted it from bottle a few months later. It is another overachieving wine from Vietti and a bottle that is exceedingly fairly priced. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027.

Palish bright red. Scented nose offers red cherry, mint and an ineffable floral perfume. Juicy, intense and delineated, with lovely orange peel lift to its sweet red fruit and floral flavors. The finish coats the mouth with dusty, fine tannins. Remarkably harmonious for a base-level Barolo made from 5 or 6 of the family's 15 Barolo crus.

Vietti
The history of the Vietti winery traces its roots back to the 19th Century. Only at the beginning of the 20th century, however, did the Vietti name become a winery offering its own wines in bottle. Patriarch Mario Vietti, starting from 1919 made the first Vietti wines, selling most of the production in Italy. His most significant achievement was to transform the family farm, engaged in many fields, into a grape-growing and wine-producing business.
