Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Garnet red with purple hues, scarlet and fleshy, lively, clean and high-intensity, deep cherry-garnet meniscus. Hearty, fresh and complex on the nose, sweet and soft bottom notes of new oak, dark fruit, cherry and currant. It is elegant, round and creamy, balanced, fresh and voluminous finish along with plenty of balanced tannins.

Blend: 50% Tempranillo and 50% Garnacha.

Pair with: red meats, cured cheeses or game dishes. Amazing when paired with dark chocolate.

Professional Ratings

Flavors of black cherry, blackberry and currant mingle with notes of licorice, tobacco and smoke in this fruity red, which offers light, firm tannins and balsamic acidity. Not muscular, but racy. Drink now through 2020.

Vina Herminia Winery Image
Located in the Rioja Baja, at the southeastern end of the Rioja, Viña Herminia belongs to the owners of Emilio Lustau. They offer a full range of Rioja wines, from vineyards on the slopes of Monte Yerga and Monte Argudo, up to an altitude of 700m. Together with the warmer climate, this ensures rich, generous, fruity wines of enormous appeal.

Hailed as the star red variety in Spain’s most celebrated wine region, Tempranillo from Rioja, or simply labeled, “Rioja,” produces elegant wines with complex notes of red and black fruit, crushed rock, leather, toast and tobacco, whose best examples are fully capable of decades of improvement in the cellar.

Rioja wines are typically a blend of fruit from its three sub-regions: Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental, although specific sub-region (zonas), village (municipios) and vineyard (viñedo singular) wines can now be labeled. Rioja Alta and Alavesa, at the highest elevations, are considered to be the source of the brightest, most elegant fruit, while grapes from the warmer and drier, Rioja Oriental, produce wines with deep color, great body and richness.
