Winemaker Notes

This wine is deep red in color with ruby tints. It has the fruity intensity that is characteristic of coastal Maipo. Red fruit, like strawberries, raspberries and blackcurrants emerge in the aroma and blend with black pepper, a touch of damp earth and tobacco. With a soft, elegant body, this wine reveals balanced structure and good acidity, which increases its complexity. The tannins are noticeable but soft. Long in the finish.

This wine pairs well with mature cheese, grilled red meat and well-seasoned dishes.

Blend: 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot

Spicy aromas of eucalyptus juniper, asphalt, toasty oak and berry fruits are textbook for the Maipo Valley. This is tight and focused on the palate but a bit rough. Rooty spice, chocolaty oak and herbal berry flavors finish full and with tannic scratch. Drink this well-executed Cab through 2021.

Flowers and currants on the nose. Medium body, fine tannins and a chocolate, berry and walnut undertone. Delicious now. Why wait?

Vina Ventisquero Winery Video

Ventisquero began making wine in 2000. Today, the winery is led by a young, creative team of entrepreneurs who guide us to a single purpose: creating distinctive, high quality wines. They look for innovative ways to communicate with their target audience and to market our products around the world.

Under the guidance of head winemaker Felipe Tosso, the winery was built in the Coastal Maipo Valley, where grapes for their first wines were produced. Three years later, they ventured into the Casablanca Valley and the prestigious Apalta Valley, the source today for Vina Ventisquero's premium wines.

With estate-owned vineyards in Chile's top wine producing areas – Coastal Maipo, Casablanca, Leyda and Colchagua – and extensive research to uncover the secrets of the country's unique terroir, Vina Ventisquero seeks to produce wines of the highest quality and consistency.

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.

The Maipo Valley is Chile’s most famous wine region. Set in the country’s Central Valley, it is warm and quite dry, often necessitating the use of irrigation. Alluvial soils predominate but are supplemented with loam and clay.

The climate in Maipo is best-suited for ripe, full-bodied reds like Cabernet Sauvignon (the region’s most widely planted grape), Merlot, Syrah and Carmenère, a Bordeaux variety that has found a successful home in Chile.

White wines are also produced with great prosperity, especially near the cooler coast, include Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
